OVERVIEW

Diets such as the Paleo Diet and the Blood Type Diet are based on the idea that our ideal diet depends on what our ancestors ate over the broad expanse of evolutionary history.

This article endeavors to build the theoretical context for looking at these diets, so that the background does not need to be repeated in each of these diets.

Various authors have discussed the influence of geography and climate on the evolution of human-kind. While this broader discussion is interesting in its own right, Dr. Weyrich focuses on the genetic history of that portion of modern humanity likely to present in his clinic. From this perspective, Neanderthals are more important than Australian aborigines. This in no way is intended to denigrate the humanity of Australian aborigines, who are most assuredly entitled to the full respect due to all God's children, but is an acknowledgement of my own limited abilities and need to focus on the field that I have been delegated to plough.

Ultimately, rather than stereotyping each individual based on their perceived genetic heritage, each individual should be evaluated in terms of their own personal genome and associated epigenetic modifiers. This science is in its infancy, and Dr. Weyrich is intent on pushing this envelope in treating his own patients.
